Recapping 2020 with
Clem B. Diddlesquat The Corona virus pandemic dominated the year 2020. The year started off great for St. David's UCC, but then in March the Corona virus (Covid-19) appeared. Our worship changed, but not our faith in God. We found ways to adapt. Since we couldn't be inside for worship, it seemed like the perfect time to start a long-planned renovation project, which would have kept us out of the church for quite awhile anyway. |
|
While cleaning out the church basement, Clem (and his whole family) were discovered living inside a cardboard box in the basement. Clem was one of those members who was very active in the church for awhile but then slipped away. We might have asked ourselves whatever happened to Clem, Maude and the kids, but we soon forgot about them. We have to do better about this kind of thing. Clem had a lot to offer and his return was very timely. For quite a few weeks, Clem provided us with a weekly mid-week message--some light-hearted and fun, but serious, too. Clem provided some comic relief throughout a difficult year. Clem has been silent for a little while now, and once again we soon forgot about him (shame on us). It turns out Clem has been back at the church this whole while, where he has lived for many years, and he's been keeping an eye on things at the church. It seemed appropriate that we call on Clem to provide us with a little end of the year recap. Welcome back, Clem!

POTATO HARVESTING
At the end of May folks from the church met at the Utz family farm and planted 400 pounds of seed potatoes. Members and friends of St. David's UCC tended to the potato field over the summer and in the afternoon on September 13 the potato crop was harvested. Clem and the Family have been enjoying some time away while the church is undergoing renovations. They've been staying at P & S Playland the last couple of weeks and this week were able to tour some gardens complimentary as part of their package at P & S. Clem sent photos to share with the congregation. |

Clem, our church puppet, had questions about how the church would celebrate Easter during the quarantine. He said he was going to write Pastor Sager a letter. The letter arrived and in this video Pastor Sager responds to Clem's questions.

Holy Week Scripture and a Message from Clem
April 8, 2020 In our faith, Holy Week is the week between Palm Sunday and Easter, observed with special solemnity as a time of devotion to the Passion of Jesus Christ. At St. David's we would normally have a service on Maundy Thursday commemorating the Lord's Supper and a service on Good Friday, commemorating the Passion and death of Christ. Because of COVID-19, we cannot observe these Holy Week traditions as a church, but hope you will take time to watch the Scripture video here and find a little time to commemorate these most Holy days in a way that is meaningful to you. Following the Scripture video there is another message from Clem. He's been cooped up a long time and he has things on his mind. It must be awful to be cooped up in a church basement for such a long time and when you are finally freed, find yourself quarantined and alone anyway. (p.s. Clem is a church puppet, but we don't think he knows that yet and now just doesn't seem like the time to tell him.) |

Pastor Sager's commitment and devotion to St. David's, and his service to the wider community, is without question and we love him and are grateful for his ministry. By Pastor Sager's example, we know what it means to take up your cross and follow Jesus. |
